About The Owner, Carma Shay M.S. CCC-SLP
 

Carma Shay, M.S. CCC-SLP is a State of Alaska licensed Speech Language Pathologist providing online or in person speech language and feeding therapy.  Carma is a "feeding therapist" as she has specialized instruction and education in providing oral function therapy to clients. Carma has devoted her continuing education to severe communication disorders (Childhood Apraxia of Speech and Autism) as well as feeding and swallowing disorders, because of necessity for her family and now passion to help others.  Carma received her Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).  Carma is trained in administering and using the Beckman Oral Motor Protocol. She is also an active member of ASHA SIG13 Special Interest Group, Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders.


Carma received her Masters of Arts in Communication Sciences Disorders from ECU in 2012. Although her passion for working with children began in high school. Her dream to become a speech language pathologist continued as she worked in the public schools as an aid in the speech and language classroom.  In 2012 she began working as a Early Intervention speech therapist for a non-profit in Fairbanks Alaska.  Carma moved to the Kenai Peninsula in 2015 and fulfilled her dream of opening up a private practice to bring effective, affordable and convenient therapy to the children of Kenai by giving clients the individual treatment and extra time it takes to make Speech Language and Feeding therapy successful. 


Carma has special training that makes working with parents a rewarding and inspiring experience. She is a certified trainer of Hanen It Talks Two To Talk: The Hanen Program for Parents.


Carma also has two children of her own and has been through early intervention and school based speech and therapy services with both of her children. Herself a mother of a child with Childhood Apraxia of Speech and her eldest son a graduate of food chaining, early feeding challenges and sensory processing disorder.  Carma has devoted her continuing education to severe communication disorders and feeding and swallowing disorders, because of necessity for her family and now passion to help others. Carma is currently on a 5 year track to obtain certification as a specialist in treating swallowing disorders and plans to attain specialized certification for treating motor speech disorders. 


Carma moved from Fairbanks to Kenai  with her family in 2014 and is excited to offer her much needed family centered speech, language and swallowing therapy to the Kenai community and surrounding areas. She looks forward to talking with you and seeing what services she can provide your family.  With online feeding therapy to Alaska, as well as online Speech and Language therapy across Alaska.  In person feeding therapy in Kenai, Soldotna, Nikiski or Sterling as well as feeding therapy in the clinic located in Soldotna Alaska. Speech and Language Therapy in homes in Soldotna, Kenai, Kasilof, Nikiski and Sterling as well as in clinic in Soldotna Alaska.
